this is wjz tv, baltimore. >> from the city to the counties to your neighborhood. now it's complete coverage. it's wjz, maryland's news station. brutal murder suicide. three people are dead. a city police officer at the center. a family's tearful response and links to the suspect's military past. good evening. that's what people are talking about tonight. it's been called a love triangle. now an investigation is under way into what led to the killings of a city firefighter and his girlfriend. tonight family and friends gathered to remember the victims. wjz is live and we were at that vigil and we have more from those grieving family members. >> reporter: it was a very sad vigil out there tonight. the pain these two families feel is unimaginable and it is

their first time ever meeting and the circumstances couldn't be worse. dozens fill the street in front of the home of baltimore city firefighter where he and his girlfriend were gunned down just after 1:00 this morning. >> we're never going to forget you. >> reporter: hartman, a mother of a 6-year-old boy had just started dating hoffman. >> we just don't know why. >> reporter: police say baltimore city police officer christopher lee robinson is the ex-boyfriend of hartman and he shot the couple inside the home before shooting himself. hartman's sister heard the horrific murders. she actually hid in a closet during the shooting and had to jump out of a window to escape. heavy hearts, the pain of losing two lives so

senselessly. unbearable. >> they will truly be missed. >> reporter: he was honored for saving the life of a toddler he found wandering the streets. >> he's just a trooper walking down the road. >> it just shows a lot of character on this young man who was tragically gunned down in this murder/suicide. >> putting his life on the line for my daughter. >> reporter: and marie's family hopes the couple can be buried together. >> thank you. just a heartbreaking story. the suspect was hired to the baltimore city police force in september of 2009. he worked for the eastern district. meanwhile in west baltimore, a speeding car hits three city police officers. they are recovering at the hospital tonight. it happened outside the bamboo house nightclub. the officers were directing traffic when a jeep crossed the

road and hit them. one officer fired shots at the vehicle, but the suspects got away. police are still searching for them. toddler is hot putelissed after a neighbor's dog bit off part of his nose. police say the 3-year-old boy may have put his face under a fence through a hole and then the dog bit his nose. the child was taken to pediatrics trauma in baltimore. the owners of the dog have turned it over to animal control. lawmakers from both sides of the aisle prep the obama administration to act fast and push the enrollment for obamacare back. >> reporter: with the white house working on website repairs, members of both parties are talking about delays in implementing parts of the affordable health care act. a supporter of the law is leading an effort to allow the march 31st enrollment for the

deadline to slide. >> the roll out has been a disaster. i'm proposing we extend when people can enroll. >> reporter: extending the enrollment period would give consumers valuable time to choose a plan that's best for them. republicans have similar ideas. >> it's harder and harder for them to justify why they wouldn't delay the individual mandate as well. i think you'll see them responding to the failure of this policy. >> reporter: today as the first family headed for sunday services, the president declined to comment. >> come on, guys, we're going to church. >> reporter: his administration is moving ahead. they believe if they can get the website working by the end of november, calls to delay will die down. there are even more problems over the weekend for the website. a data center failed losing connectivity to a key portal on the healthcare exchange.

>> the obama administration has not revealed how many people have signed up for medical insurance under the affordable care act. nsa surveillance, a journalist from the guardian reports there will be a new spy revelation on monday. we talk about the aftermath of such a reveal. >> the shoes keep dropping, but i also think that there's going to be a reach out to people that we've worked with that may not be public knowledge that they cooperated with it and those countries will be told this may be disclosed and could be compromised, as well as people we may have listened in on to say this is going to come out too and here it is in context and let's try and move on. >> just yesterday, d.c. was crowded with protesters angry about u.s. spy programs which they say violate the privacy of ordinary people. expected in washington this week to discuss the spying program. the president has issued a

review of u.s. spying. elsewhere in d.c., r and b singer chris brown sits in jail tonight, in trouble with the law once again. charged with felony assault accused of attacking a man this morning outside a hotel. super star chris brown and his bodyguard face a judge monday morning, each charged with felony assault. the 24-year-old singer was in washington to mc this homecoming event. sometime after he left, brown was outside the w hotel posing for a picture with fans when the victim jumped into the photo. according to arresting documents, brown said quote i'm not down with that gay expletive. i feel like boxing. end quote. brown and his bodyguard each punched the victim in the face. the victim was taken to the hospital. this could have serious legal consequences for brown.

he's still serving probation for his 2009 attack on former girlfriend rihanna. police say the victim from sunday's attack had a bruised and swollen face. he's been treated and released from the hospital. meantime, the music world mourns the loss of a rock legend. >> i said hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side. all right. >> singer lou reed has passed away in south hampton new york. the velvet underground frontman died this morning as an ailment to his recent liver transplant. songs like sweet jane and pale blue eyes became his standards. he was 71 years old. finding a cure one step at a time. thousands of breast cancer survivors continue the fight against the disease this weekend. it's all part of wjzs

continuing community commitment. we take you to the american cancer society's largest fundraiser. >> reporter: a sea of pink covers the lawn at the ymca stadium place in baltimore. pink tutus, bright pom poms and sashes. the american cancer society's making strides against breast cancer walk is this weekend. >> it's a beast and i want to do everything i can to help beat it. >> reporter: she's a 2-year survivor. the disease runs in her family. she's making sure future generations can beat cancer and to thank the women that come before. >> one of the things i dreaded was nausea. there were women out there before me who did research, so i did haven't to. >> reporter: the largest funder of cancer research, second only to the federal government.

it's clear and 41 degrees in central maryland right now. the complete forecast is coming up. flames shoot through the roof of a florida brewing company. the fire broke out inside a storage unit at the yuengling plant in tampa. no word on what started the fire or how much damage it caused. one firefighter was taken to the hospital for a minor injury. an operator faces three felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon. they say he tampered with the ride the vortex. the ride had stopped and people were in the process of getting off the ride when the ride restarted. more arrests are possible and the investigation is on going.

a mother and her four young children stabbed to death inside their home in brooklyn, new york. and tonight, a relative is charged with their deaths. three of those children ranging in age from 1-9 were pronounced dead at the scene. the mother and a 5-year-old died at the hospital. a 25-year-old cousin of the children's father stabbed them all to death with a kitchen knife. he had reportedly been staying in the home. hundreds gathered to remember a massachusets teacher allegedly killed by one of her students. >> we'd like to honor her. >> they released the pink balloons in honor of coleen ritzer. police say she was killed inside the school's bathroom before her body was dumped in the woods behind the building. the crowd included many of her students tonight, as well as

columbia, to 50 in annapolis and kent island. winds on the calm side and light side in most cases and that in conjunction with clear skies is going to allow for what we call radiational cooling. it will allow the temperatures to really drop as we head into the overnight. not only does it mean a cool night, but a cool start to the day. you want to grab a jacket as you head out the door. the big picture on satellite and radar, that's this area of clear, dry air. associated with a cold front that will drop down and move through but not until tomorrow night. we'll see high pressure continue to stay in control of our forecast throughout the day tomorrow. we'll have a chilly start but a nice finish. temperatures will top out into the low and mid-60s as the day goes on for your monday. we will turn very seasonable for this time of year.

moving through as we head through tuesday, high pressure will build back in through that cold front. a little cloud cover later on in the day. high pressure building in, bringing us plenty of sunshine into tuesday, and clouds will increase as we head into wednesday. northwest winds tomorrow around about 5 knots. here's what you can expect for tonight. lows around 35. clear to partly cloudy. 63 for tomorrow. so a nice little rebound, especially since about the past four days or so we haven't hit that 60-degree mark. a very seasonable day in store for us tomorrow. 60 degrees as we head into tuesday. 65 on wednesday. then our next system will be heading our way. we're expecting it to get here on thursday night. it should be dry for the trick or treaters, at least during the evening time on thursday. this will be a notable rain event for us lasting into friday morning and perhaps the

the ravens enjoyed their bye week. their next opponent the cleveland browns took on the nfls only undefeated team. they were 7-point underdogs as they traveled to kansas city to face the chiefs. they reached into their bag of tricks and came up with this 39- yard touchdown pass from jason campbell to josh gordon. however, the chiefs wasted no

all peyton manning and the broncos after that. they scored 38 straight points as manning threw four touchdown passes, including this 35- yarder to thomas. denver rolls 45-21 and robert griffin, iii left the quarter after hurting his knee. he was walking on the sidelines after getting checked out. the best finish today was in detroit. the lions trailed the cowboys by 6 points in the closing seconds. stafford hits calvin johnson with a pass. the lions were out of timeouts. stafford hurried to the line, and look what happened. he dove in for the winning touchdown with just 12 seconds to play. detroit stunned dallas 31-30. last night the cardinals stunned the red sox in the 9th inning to win game three of the world series and take a two games to one lead. tonight in st. louis it's game four. right now boston is leading 4-2
